Parliament’s Deafening Silence—Again: An Update

Excerpt
Coincidentally, today marked the 42nd Regular Session of the House of Representatives (HoR) of the Ethiopian Parliament—a moment that could have restored a fragment of public trust. The Prime Minister himself was in attendance, taking the floor for what was billed as a Q&A with representatives. And still, not a single mention of Obbo Taye Danda’a Aredo. Not a question. Not a follow-up. Not even a passing reference.
Parliament’s Deafening Silence
Coincidentally, today marked the 42nd Regular Session of the House of Representatives (HoR) of the Ethiopian Parliament—a moment that could have restored a fragment of public trust. The Prime Minister himself was in attendance, taking the floor for what was billed as a Q&A session with representatives. The session began at 8:42am local time and stretched for about five hours. Yet the bulk of it was consumed by the PM’s extended monologue— what appeared like responding to a bundle of questions presented previously.
And still, not a single mention of Obbo Taye Danda’a Aredo.
Not a question. Not a follow-up. Not even a passing reference.
This wasn’t a casual oversight. It was a nationally televised opportunity—the perfect moment for elected representatives to raise, challenge, or even spin the explosive revelations of a former colleague. They had every tool and format available to bring it up: concern, clarification, political theatre. But they opted for absolute silence. Not a word.
The silence is no longer incidental. It is institutional.
And today’s session formalised that complicity in real time.
From Cowardice to Complicity
As if silence weren’t shameful enough, what followed was worse.
One by one, representatives paraded forward—not to interrogate the Prime Minister, but to praise him. A jaw-dropping spectacle of opportunism, appeasement, and sycophancy. Far from checking executive power, they enabled it.
The pinnacle of this display came from Dr Ashebir Wolde-Ghiorgis, whose gushing performance will live in infamy. Viewers are advised to scroll to the local time display of 03:46 at the bottom left corner of the screen. See it. Digest it.
A Moment that Will Haunt History
This is more than disappointing—it is damning.
The House had the floor, the cameras, and the people’s attention—and chose cowardice.
They have not just failed their duty—they’ve sided with silence.
Let history record that on 3rd July 2025, Ethiopia’s parliament had the Prime Minister in the chamber, the questions in hand, and the truth in plain sight—and said absolutely nothing.
