How the Educated Elites Lost the Plot as the Tide is Turning: Using Education to Inflame Rather Than Heal

    By Elemoo Qilxuu Posted on2024-11-132025-01-21

by Elemoo Qilxuu When I saw these three people, the screen characters from The Three Stooges came to mind, albeit in a darker way. The Three Stooges evoke a mix of slapstick chaos, quick wit, and timeless, absurd humor that holds a special place in comedy history. But for these three Amhara elites, what replaces...

Battee Urgeessaa Is Gone, Who Will Be Next For Koree Nageenyaa's Gestapo?

    By Elemoo Qilxuu Posted on2024-04-112025-01-21

An accomplished Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) political figure was assassinated last night. His assassination was made to coincide with one of the major religious holidays, Ramadan, presumably calculated to bury the news amidst the celebratory atmosphere. The cruelty of the Ethiopian regime is only matched by the character of the martyr, Jaal Battee Urgeessaa, renowned...

ETHIOPIA'S 6 BIG LIES FUELING ITS IMPENDING COLLAPSE

    By Elemoo Qilxuu Posted on2024-03-132025-04-22

Ethiopia’s looming collapse, the article argues, stems from six enduring lies that distort its identity and history—from the myth of a 3,000-year nation and claims of never being colonized to the illusion of unity and heroism. These deceptions, sustained by political elites and echoed through propaganda, have fractured trust, erased diversity, and silenced truth. Unless Ethiopia confronts these falsehoods, embraces genuine federalism, and addresses historical injustices—particularly against the Oromo—its instability will deepen beyond repair.

A Missed Opportunity for Peace in Oromia

    By Roobaa Hawaas Posted on2023-11-222025-05-29

November 21st, 2023 was indeed a sad day! The unsaid reason behind the failed peace talks between the Ethiopian government and Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) was all too evident from a statement issued by Mr Redwan Hussien—PM’s advisor and on-behalf chief negotiator—on his X (formerly Twitter) social media page last night. To get the clue,...

The Ethiopian Orthodox Church: Amhara's Weapon of Mass Confusion

    By Abbaa Torbban Posted on2023-01-282025-07-16

The Ethiopian Orthodox Church's focus should have been on theology instead of being an economic and political instrument that provides a way of life. In the name of religious teaching, the Orthodox Church made it possible for the Amharic language to expand across the empire of Ethiopia while at the same time allowing the Amharas...

    By OT Editorial Posted on2023-01-012025-01-21

The Oromo struggle for freedom is at the most critical crossroads and the stakes have never been so high. The 50+ years struggle has been getting a global attention it deserves only over the recent one year or so (at the UN Security Council, the AU, the EU, and the US State Department). This credit...

Colonel Abiy Ahmed Follows Suit of His Role Models in Appointing a War Committee of Amharas to Meddle in Oromia Affairs

    By OT Editorial Posted on2022-12-172026-02-07

    — OROMIA TODAY EDITORIAL The audacity is jaw dropping, the miscalculation is mind boggling; the insensitivity will only hasten the end of an empire that is already in tatters. Yes, colonel Abiy Ahmed, PM of Ethiopia, just followed in the footsteps of his role models, Menelik II and Haile Sellasee I, in appointing a transitional...

Oromo liberation movement originated from pain oppression caused to Oromo society. At a period when poverty, illiteracy, ignorance and physical and psychological abuse reached an intolerable level in Oromia social movements to ameliorate them started to show up and political grievances started to simmer. Among the social movements the greatest was Maccaa and Tuulamaa Self...
